Gregoire Sisters Makeover: Elaine Day

This week on The Chrissy B Show the Gregoire Sisters made over  mother of 3, Elaine Day.  Elaine is featured on the “Love Your Body, Love You” special episode.

Before the makeover began, Elaine had explained to us that her tiny 5″1 frame ballooned from 6.5 stone to 12.5 stone during her three pregnancies, leaving her body with loose  skin, stretch marks and sagging breasts.  Finding flattering clothes became more difficult and she has admitted she has lost confidence in her post baby body to the point where it has started to affect her personal life.

Elaine before Gregoire Sister Makeover

First came the makeup, and Maegan was all about the colour.  What I love about Maegan’s work is she always manages to find a look for a person they would have never previously considered.  She analyses her model’s faces and then chooses from a wide selection of quality products to complete her creative makeup application.

First came the hair and makeup, and Maegan was all about natural glam.  “When your face is flawless everything else is a bonus.  I focused on enhancing the skin using natural contour colours and shades of natural tone to suit Elaine’s skin colour.”

Now for the clothes.  I wanted to style Elaine in a  glamorous way that would enhance her figure and provide the structure and support where her body needed it.  Hiding a heavier figure under baggy oversized tops can actually make a person appear larger and shorter than they are.  Instead choose a garment that fits properly, make use of colours and patterns and choose fabrics that have structure to create a flattering shape.

I knew I had the perfect solution for Elaine with Nicole Miller’s AW15  “Surplus Tuck Dress”. The forest green and white abstract-print fabric, wrap V neckline, and ruching throughout is just what Elaine needed to hide any unwanted bulges. A structured dress such as this gives the illusion of a  flattering silhouette and perfect hourglass shape.  High stilettos make a shorter frame appear much taller and slim the legs.

Elaine Day before and after the Gregoire Sisters makeover

Here’s what Elaine had to say about her clothing makeover:

“Having a makeover on the show was great! It has encouraged me to be more experimental with clothing and natural tones.  The clothing was good quality and comfortable, felt very natural on me, I particularly liked the shoes. Sometimes heels can be uncomfortable but they were so nice…”

Another Gregoire Sisters Makeover on The Chrissy B Show!

Elaine was a pleasure to work with and I wish her a successful career in the tv and film industry as she chases her dream!

This show will air in London, England on Sky 203 at 10pm October 26, 2015.  Check back here to watch.

To celebrate this black tie dress code event, I chose a beautiful cowl neck asymmetric dress in navy by American design Nicole Miller and styled my sister Maegan in a gorgeous Swedish brand “By Malina” silk dress in raspberry pink.  Pumps by Lucy Choi of London.

‘Old Hollywood Glamour’ inspired by 1950’s fashion

In 1947, Christian Dior revealed to the world a “New Look” consisting of full skirted silhouettes reminiscent of the Victorian era.  1950’s fashion was to become an era in which women would finally be able to express their individual identity.

The look included using an extravagant amount of fabric, calf length hems and tiny accentuated waists.  This look was very different in mentality to 1940’s fashion, where clothing was rationed, recycled, and repaired until the garments could no longer be worn.

Floral designs such as flowers were common and coloured buttons, belts and shoes accentuated the dresses.

Hairstyles carried forward the Victorian rolls from the 1940’s and signature makeup included red lips, a subtle cateye flick and penciled in beauty marks.

‘Old Hollywood Glamour’ was the look to attain and fashion idols of the decade included English and American film actresses such as Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.

On The Chrissy B Show  I talk about the relevance of this silhouette  in 2015, and highlight a London designer “Mrs Pomeranz” who takes 1950’s silhouettes and makes her own contemporary designs from them.

1950’s Fashion and Make-up discussed on The Chrissy B Show

Chrissy is wearing the “Hannah” Brocade Cocktail Dress, made of beautiful Italian linen brocade fabric with a vibrant blue rose print.

Note the fitted bodice with short sleeves, boat neck at the front and low button up back. The full, gently pleated skirt has side pockets and a net frill, which imitates a petticoat.

I’m wearing the “Waverley” dress with a removable Peter Pan collar. It also comes with a second option for collar in pure white. The combinations of Peter Pan collar and full calf length skirt made the dress quite unique looking, mixing 1950’s with early 1900’s details all designed together for a contemporary style.

Make-up artist Maegan is wearing a made-to-measure special design skirt in white with floral patterns for spring.  This type of skirt looks great styled with a racerback vest tucked in and a short cardigan as pictured here.

Christmas Fashion with Nicole Miller, DVF & MSGM

This week on The Chrissy B Show  the theme is still Christmas Fashion.  Garments from Nicole Miller, Diane von Furstenberg, and Italian designer MSGM caught my eye in the shop this week.

 Host Chrissy B

Host Chrissy B is wearing a silk Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) wrap dress in magenta and blue silk.  The cut of a wrap dress is so flattering to a women’s figure DVF dedicated her career to perfecting the iconic silhoette.

Stylist Cynthia Liza

I went for a sheath dress by Nicole Miller in shiny blue satin.  The sheath dress is another cut of dress that women of all body types can wear and make look amazing.  The sheen in the fabric is as festive as it gets.

Make up artist Maegan is wearing the same cut dress in a gorgeous purple.  I’ve paired a short collar statement necklace by Big Metal to another layer to the look.

Céline Lefèvre is modelling a black jumpsuit by Italian label MSGM.  Draping in the front gives a grecian goddess type feel to the garment.  The jumpsuit is a more traditional masculine shape given the trouser leg, and this can look amazing with paired with a very feminine shiny metallic stiletto, as these Lucy Choi heels featured in this months Marie Claire.

The fashion segment on Christmas Fashion (including menswear) will air on The Chrissy B Show on Sky 203 Monday 24 November at 10pm, London.
